The Gift (A story I wrote)

Here's a short story I wrote recently. I really wanted to share it with you guys. Hope you like it!

The Gift

How did I get there? I don’t know exactly, but one thing’s for sure, I’m in a bad situation. I made a big mistake and I know it’s going to end soon…

It all started last week. I was in my bedroom in the morning when it suddenly happened. I’ve always lived a boring routine like life. Each morning I’d wake up at 6:59 AM. I was so used to get waked up by my alarm clock at 7am that I developed a habit of waking up before it and close it before it rings. I was always eating the same old banana-peanut butter sandwich each morning with my tasteless cup of coffee wich was getting cold while I was reading the newspaper. It was always the same colorless news telling stuff that I already knew. To the point I was, I was reading it more by habit than interest. After my breakfast I’d go to work in my uncomfortable, rusty car at exactly 7:45 AM to arrive to the parking lot of the tall, gray building at 8:05 precisely. I’d take the elevator and push the 21st floor button. I would sometimes pass by some of collegues and exchange a short, empty dialogue. I’d then go in my office, check my e-mails, delete the porn and quickly answer my messages. Then, I’d help some regular, average people with the same computer problems, stoping a few minutes to drink some water or go to the bathroom. I would also have a short 30 minutes break at noon where I’d eat the egg sandwich I made the night before and talk a little with my co-workers about some meaningless topics. I’d then go back to work util 5:30 and get home at 6:00, take a shower, eat my dinner, make my luch and finally go to sleep. This was my life.

This particular morning tough, it was different. For the first time in fifteen years, I woke up late and for no explainable reason, my alarm clock did not ringed. Frome that moment on, I knew it wouldn’t be a normal day. The strangest part was this weird feeling deep inside of me. I was feeling different, happier and energized. For once I was feeling like doing something different, get out of this boring routine. I was feeling strong, powerful. Yes, power! That was the exact word to describe it. It was a power that was growing bigger inside of me. I suddenly felt the need to eat pankakes. Strangely, I didn’t care about getting to work late, I would never go there again anyway. I wanted to change and that power would help me to achieve that. When I finished my breakfast, I decided to learn more about this power. So I walked out the door and stoped in front of the street. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.

When I opened my eyes, I was shocked to realize that I was… flying! I was actually floating about thirty meters in the air! At the moment, I couldn’t tell if I was dreaming or not. It felt so real but so improbable at the same time! I looked down and I could see my house, so small from up here. I could also see the people walking on the sidewalk but no one seemed to have noticed me, floating in the sky with the birds. I then felt different from them, I wasn’t part of the common mass anymore, I was superior! Looking bad on it now, I feel bad to have tought that. Hopefully, a bird poop fell on my shoulder, chasing this ridiculous idea out of my head. I smiled and then realized that I didn’t had to stay in place, I could fly for god sake! So I flew up higher . I could feel the fresh and humid air of the morning. From where I was, up in the clouds, I had the best vue ever of the sunrise. I let the warm sunlight flow slowly all over my body. I felt the warmness go from my toes to the point of my hair. For once in my life, I finally felt like I was living life. From that moment on, I started traveling in the clouds over the many coutries of the world. I first got to Florida then Mexico. I flew over the ocean to France, Russia, Egypt, India and China. I also passed by Australia, eating each day new food in the finnest restaurants of new countries and going to various parties. I was finally living life to the fullest, doing all the things that I always dreamed of doing deep inside without even realizing it.

After seven days of these trips, I suddenly felt an intense pain in my torso and started loosing altitude. I gently fell in a jungle somewhere in the coast of Africa. What I didn’t realized at the moment, is that I abused of my new power, I over used it. I wasn’t noticing the power getting weaker after every flight until it finally let me down.

I know have no way to get back home, I don’t have a home anymore. I never had any real friends or other close person who would miss me if I didn’t get back. No one was aware of me or the experience I lived this passed week. All I know now is that this power that was misteriously given to me is now about to be taken away from me, for no explainable reason and that it’s going to take me away with it. But I have no regret, I prefer to actually live like I did this past week for even a second rather than to live the eternity in a robotic routine. At least I lived, I finally lived.

He laught out loud during five long minutes. It has been years since he laught. And as he closed his eyes, the power completely faded away and so did he.

I mean it's been some time now that I posted this and NO ONE replyed. What's wrong? Is it to long and you're to lazy to read it or something? Could you at least TRY to read it and reply?

Sorry, it's just that I passed some time on this and I'm very proud of it, I would really want to see what other people think about it. Thanks.:)
